29/6/2017 2 Comments Photos from the PastI have been contemplating doing a transition timeline video and have started looking through photos. If I do the video, it could very well be one of the weirdest ones out there. This is somewhere around 1988? New Order shirt for the win! This is one of my favorite photos of me pretending to be a boy. Based on the length of my hair and the fact my jacket doesn't have safety pins in it yet, I would say this is about 1989. A few years later. Same jacket, now with safety pins and much longer hair. 1993-94? And look at those glasses. I was well into my gender fuck period at this time. Of course I couldn't be transgender since I was fine with my genitals. And one last one for the day. Kinda hot if I do say so. 1995-96.

26/6/2017 0 Comments VacationI spent the last week on my first vacation as my true self. I had a wonderful time. The only thing that could have made it better would have been having my wife with my. Here is a recap of the trip. After the fun with security in Minneapolis, the rest of the flight was uneventful. My brother and niece picked me up at the airport and we headed off to Bellingham. It was late in the day, so we stopped for some Mexican food before seeing mom. Of course I had a jumbo margarita to get my courage up. It was around 9:00pm when we finally got to moms place. She finally got to see me in person. One of the first things she said to me was about me having a pot belly. I reemed her for that. It is NEVER appropriate to criticize someone's looks. I went to bed shortly after that, feeling like shit. The next day, we had a family party and my aunt and her boyfriend came. They were wonderfully supportive! I wish I could see them more often. Things seemed better with mom today and she told me later that day, or next morning, "After spending time with you, I realize you are the same person just with different clothes." That felt like a big step forward. I went shopping one morning and got myself a new, locally made dress and a pair of cool earrings. Tuesday, my brother, niece and I went to Tsubaki Grand Shrine of America for a formal visit. My wife and I have been members there for a very long time and it is a highlight of our trips. This time I had a ceremony done to acknowledge the changes in my life and also for our sweet Kitaro who left us recently. It was a very moving ceremony. Wednesday was my moms birthday and we took her to a nice place by the docks. It was delicious. Thursday, mom, my brother and I headed to Seattle. We did the underground tour which was pretty cool. After that, I was left to later meet up with my friend Pam. We were going to spend the next couple days together. We met at a Korean place near Pike Place Market. It was pretty tasty. Friday a spent the morning in the International District poking around like I like to do. Instead of taking the bus to meet Pam for lunch, I walked so that I could look at stuff. It was a lot of fun, but my knee wasn't too happy about it. After lunch I sat in a coffee shop for a couple hours to relax on my was to our dinner venue. Dinner was at a place on the pier called The Crab Pot. OMG, was it ever delicious. The shrimp were so good! After dinner, we headed black over towards Pam's house with a stop at a local gay bar. It was a nice little place, but it was apparently underwear night. As more and more guys were stripped down, I became more and more dysphoric. We left for a cheesy Chinese place for a last round.
Saturday was a slow day slowly heading to the airport. Getting through security was much easier this time! The flight got in early but it turned out the car was dead so I had to face a ton more walking to get to the train station and then home. I was completely wiped. It was great seeing my wife and the cats. Opal wanted nothing but pets all night long! She missed me a lot! I am happy to say that there wasn't a single misgendering the whole trip! I also noticed a few other transgender people out and about on the trip. All looked great. 17/6/2017 0 Comments AiRport Security Yeehah! Full pat down, search and chemical check my first time flying as the true me! F*ck TSA!
Not that I'm really surprised though. I was just hoping not to have to deal with it. Anyway, I found out yesterday that my insurance will will cover liposuction if a can get my doctor to sign off on its medically necessary to help deal with my gender dysphoria. My one physical thing that still bothers me is my tummy. I already have a consultation scheduled. Hopefully my doctor will send over the referral! 15/6/2017 0 Comments The PrivIledge of PassingThis is something I have thought a lot about since I started my transition. I am extremely fortunate in that from the get go, I have been read as a woman. Not once in the 9 months since I came out have I been misgendered in the public. To me it seems crazy, but that is what has happened.
This article has given me a bit to ponder on the subject. https://theestablishment.co/what-i-learned-about-privilege-the-night-i-first-passed-aec3d761ad0b 14/6/2017 0 Comments And THe Voice AgainThis morning I had my final session of my voice therapy. It has been going very well overall. Now I just need to practice, practice, practice. Over the next 4 weeks I will continue practicing what I have learned and also try to bring my pitch up just a little bit more.
I have a follow up scheduled in 4 weeks. This has been a very interesting and fun bit of my transition. 12/6/2017 0 Comments In Non Trans News!Yesterday, I had an MRI on my knee. This is related to a fall I had at work way back in February. Multiple doctor visits including X-rays and it never got any better. The MRI showed that I have a multidirectional tear of the medial meniscus AND a fracture in my femur! No wonder the pain won't go away! I have an appointment with a specialist Wednesday afternoon. I am guessing I will need surgery. I hope this doesn't effect my vacation starting this weekend!
11/6/2017 0 Comments The weekendI started Saturday with an hour of electrolysis. It's always a nice way to begin the weekend. Get the pain out of the way, shave the remaining hair of and get on with it. We we went to our neighbors graduation party. It was a very nice event with lots of people. I started the evening with with the Minnesota Transgender Alliance. We had three new people show up including a guy! That was a lot of fun. I didn't go out to dinner with them this time since I had plans with another group. We met at our sake brew pub. I didn't know who all was going to be there and was happy that it was a group that included a good number of transgender people! It was a fine evening. I started Sunday by having an MRI on my knee. I wasn't expecting to hear anything for a couple days but a couple hours later my doctor sent me a message telling me that I have a torn meniscus and a fracture in my femur! Joy! I get to call the specialist tomorrow.
9/6/2017 0 Comments AppointmentsYesterday I had a follow up appointment with my hormone doctor. Everything went really well. The only issue I have been having is some incredibly dry, flaky skin on my face. She said it isn't a side effect of the hormones, but she thought she knew what it was. Perioral dermatitis. She prescribed some gel to treat it. Oddly, this condition is usually only seen in women. Now, I am not sure if this is what I have, or maybe a reaction to the numbing cream that we use for electrolysis.
We talked about my estrodial levels, which are in the normal low range and after she took some measurements, (Hips and boobs have increased an 1" since my last visit) we decided to increase my dosage. She gave me the option of moving to 3 patches at a time, or injections. I opted for 3 patches right now. They seem to work just fine. Maybe in the future I will contemplate the injections though. I will have another blood test in a month. After that, I had an appointment with my therapist. I hadn't seen her since April and she is very much pregnant! She is the third woman at my various clinics that I noticed were pregnant this week! Anyway, it was nice to share many of the great things that have happened to me since April. I will get to see her one more time before the baby arrives. 8/6/2017 0 Comments Again with the voice?Yesterday I had another voice therapy session. I went in feeling very disgruntled with the past weeks work, but my therapist was very good talking me through how to deal with the issues I had. She is really great and I am happy to be working with her.
We started by me reading for about 15 minutes. That was pretty interesting. I will be reading for 15 minutes a day as part of my homework for the next week. All part of working on endurance with my voice. Today I have appointments with my hormone doctor AND my therapist! I am looking forward to both. I am not foreseeing any changes in the meds I am taking, since my levels seem to be OK, but we will see what she has to say. I have so much to get my therapist up to date on! Life had been awesome as far as transitioning goes. I almost want to start seeing her more often just so that I won't have so much to go through! 5/6/2017 0 Comments ShOckedThis morning on my way to work, I stopped to fill up the car. I ran into the store to get some oil, which the car desperately needed. As I approach the register the cashier, she asks me, "Is there anything else, ma'am?"
Well, I am in my work clothes which are pretty darned male, so that was a shockingly positive way to start my day! |
