10/1/2019 0 Comments And Surgery is DoneThis morning we checked into the hospital at 5:30. I was soon taken back to get prepped. All went smoothly. I was offered the option for an epidural and it am so glad that took it!
Shortly after that, they wheeled me off to the OR and the next thing I knew, I was in recovery! Pain has been minimal so far. I haven’t started on opioids yet which I’m happy for. All in all, a very good day! 30/12/2018 2 Comments 11 Days11 days from this very moment, I will be in the hospital, getting prepped for surgery! I can't believe it is so close now. I have been off of hormones for a few days, and so far, it hasn't been too bad. Occasional feelings of crappiness, but overall, I am doing just fine.
It is nice having friends that have recently had the surgery nearby. Seeing how their recovery is going helps out a lot with me fear as the day approaches. One of those friends will be going back to work, part time next week. She is the one that went to the same surgeon that I did. I will be seeing her latter today. My other friend that went to the Mayo Clinic is also doing very well. I am hoping to squeeze in one more visit with her before my big day. Last night, my wife and I were out shopping and I spent some time looking at swimsuits. I was hit with a lot of emotions realizing that I will soon be able to wear one without issue! I am so very excited about that! 5/12/2018 0 Comments Less than a Month! In just 26 days, I will be under the knife, getting my long wanted vagina! My brain is in such a spin right now!
In the last three weeks, I have had 3 friends get surgery. I cried with happiness for each one. One of those friends even went to the surgeon that I am going to. She is beyond happy with how things look. It makes me very happy with my choices. I could go on and on, but really, that is what I have right now. Oh, and I think my boobs are growing a bit again, so Yay! 2/11/2018 0 Comments Closer!9/10/2018 0 Comments Surgery!!!Well, it is going to happen! I am going to have vaginoplasty on January 10th, 2019!
This scares the crap out of me, but WOW!!! am I excited! I am finally going to have the genitals that I have always wanted! My head is spinning with excitement! I am trying to get as prepped for this as I can. I have my second round of laser hair removal in the area this afternoon. I am not going to be completely hair free by the surgery, but it is not a requirement. Also, trying to save as much money as we can, because I don't have short term disability insurance and I only have so much vacation and sick leave. I'm not too worried about the money though. I will be off of work for 6-8 weeks. I am sure that I will be going crazy by the end of that, but hopefully, towards the end of that time, I will be able to do more than just sitting on the couch watching TV. Here is a rundown of getting the date for surgery. Initially, I talked to the coordinator right after I received my approval and he said to let him know if I hadn't heard from scheduling in 2 weeks. I hadn't, so I called him. When he called back, he told me that if I hadn't heard from them already, I would soon. Fast forward another week and I email him letting him know that I hadn't heard anything. He emails back that he talked to scheduling and they said they had talked to me 2 days earlier and that I was on the schedule. What? No, they didn't. Within minutes, I get a call from scheduling telling me they had a note that they had talked to me and I was scheduled for December 13th! What? No, that isn't going to work! I told her that I was looking for a date in the new year. She did some checking and called back and now I am all set! It turns out that the December 13th date is the same day a friend of mine is getting hers done. It would have been kinda cool to be twins with her, but also it would have been kinda creepy and stalkerish. 13/9/2018 0 Comments Getting Closer!Monday, I received a letter from my insurance company saying that I have been approved for surgery! I broke down in tears! It made me so happy! This is going to happen! I am still waiting for scheduling to call so we can set up a date, but I am hoping for this winter or early spring.
27/8/2018 0 Comments Mini VacationThis past weekend, my wife and I took a trip to Duluth primarily to see Venus DeMars & All the Pretty Horses, but also to get away and spend sometime together. Duluth is where I spent my first 3 days out as myself, so the place is important to me. We made a point to go to the same spot where my original header photo was taken and get another shot. Here it is. Saturday night we got to the club early and I ran into the guitarist for the band. We hung out and talked for quite awhile before Venus arrived and she had to get to work. The show was excellent and everyone seemed to have a great time. Venus also debuted the new corset I made for her! It fit and looked great! Sunday morning, I had breakfast with Venus and the drummer for the band. We had a lovely time solving all the worlds problems. When I got back to the hotel and get ready to head home, My wife heard a meowing from the woods. It was a little kitten! She tried to call it over, but it was really scared and kept it's distance. Eventually, she was able to entice it with a philly cheese steak sandwich! She caught it and brought it into the hotel. They had been trying to catch it for a couple days. The manager committed to take good care of her, yes, I looked. We later heard that one of the employees was going to adopt her! Tomorrow, I have a consultation with the surgeon that will be assisting with my vaginoplasty! And after work, I get lasers shot at the same area! I want as much hair gone as possible before I go under the knife.
20/8/2018 1 Comment Moving ForwardI am still waiting to hear back form the insurance company about the prior authorization for my surgery. It could still be a couple weeks until that comes through. With any luck, we can get it scheduled for early next year. In the mean time, next Tuesday, I have a consultation with the urologist that will be assisting with the surgery. With each passing day, I am more and more confident that this is a thing I need to do.
Speaking of insurance, my appeal against them for facial hair removal went through. Although, they now agree that the claims are in fact, medically necessary, they are saying that most of the services are out of network. They have paid the first 3 claims that I filed though, so I am fully confident that I will be able to collect on the rest. It is just a matter of figuring out who to talk to to fix it. This weekend, my wife and I are heading to Duluth for a long weekend. We haven't been there since I first came out. (See photo at the top, left hand side of my blog) I plan on taking a new photo at the same spot while we are there. We are also going up to see All the Pretty Horses play in a small club. I am looking forward to that! It will be the first time Venus DeMars will perform while wearing the new corset I made for her! We are both very happy with how it turned out. 6/8/2018 0 Comments Two Big ThingsIt has been quite the action packed week. Some things I won't be sharing here, but there are 2 big things that I will!
First of all, I have retained the services of a lawyer in Virginia! She has a lot of experience help transgender people and she thinks she can help get my birth certificate straightened out! I am extremely happy about this. It is the last thing hanging over my head as far as documentation is concerned. And it doesn't sound like it will take too much time on her part. And the big, BIG thing! Last Friday, I had my consultation for vaginoplasty! I have all of the groundwork done, so now they are putting together the information to get prior authorization! Once that comes through, we will schedule a date, which will be about a year from now! I am extremely excited about this and also scared out of my mind! This is major surgery here and the recovery can by unpleasant. I am still in a bit of shock about it. |
